A logo that's too small goes unnoticed, and one that's too big looks like a costume. Here are the sizes and placements we recommend in our workshop, for a professional result first time.
The sizes that work (adult)
| Placement | Recommended width | Position |
|---|---|---|
| Left chest | 7 to 10 cm | about 15 to 20 cm below the shoulder |
| Centred front | 20 to 28 cm | top of the artwork 7-10 cm below the collar |
| Back | 25 to 30 cm | top of the artwork 8-12 cm below the collar |
| Nape | 6 to 8 cm | just below the collar, on the back |
| Sleeve | 5 to 8 cm | on the upper part of the sleeve |
For children's clothing, reduce by about a third. For an oversized T-shirt, you can make the back artwork a few centimetres larger.
Which placement for which use?
- Business, workwear: logo on the left chest, and the name or phone number on the back (see our advice for construction and trades).
- Brand, merch: small logo on the front and large artwork on the back, or a large centred artwork on the front.
- Club, team: club logo on the chest, name and number on the back (see flock printing).
- Event, hen party: a large line of text on the back, readable from a distance, and a small nod on the front.
On other garments
- Sweatshirt and hoodie: same sizes as the T-shirt; on a hoodie, place the front artwork above the pocket. On a zip-up, the logo goes on the left chest and the large artwork on the back.
- Cap: 6 to 10 cm wide on the front.
- Tote bag: up to about 25 cm wide on the front.
- Polo shirt: 7 to 9 cm on the left chest, ideally as embroidery.
How many pixels for each size?
For a sharp print, you need about 300 dots per inch (300 dpi) at actual size. Your image should therefore be at least:
| Placement | Printed width | Image width (300 dpi) |
|---|---|---|
| Chest, sleeve | 8 cm | 945 pixels |
| Cap | 10 cm | 1,181 pixels |
| Tote bag | 25 cm | 2,953 pixels |
| Centred front | 28 cm | 3,307 pixels |
| Back | 30 cm | 3,543 pixels |
A smaller image will still print, but less sharply. A vector logo (PDF, SVG, AI) can be enlarged without limit. To check or prepare your file for free: prepare my artwork for printing.

Some concrete reference points
- A left-chest logo of 8 cm is roughly the width of a bank card.
- A front artwork of 28 cm is almost the height of an A4 sheet (29.7 cm) laid out landscape.
- Whatever the T-shirt size (S or XXL), we generally keep the same artwork: it simply looks a little smaller on a larger size.
Our tips
- Print your logo on an A4 sheet at the right size and hold it against a T-shirt: you'll see straight away if it's too big.
- Text needs to stay legible: at least 1 to 2 cm letter height for small text, more for text read from a distance.
- In our tool, you can move and resize the artwork live: the preview shows the real result.
Frequently asked questions
What size for T-shirt flock printing? The same guidelines: 7 to 10 cm on the chest, 20 to 28 cm on the front, 25 to 30 cm on the back. For a name on the back, allow 5 to 8 cm letter height; for a number, 20 to 25 cm. See textile flock printing.
What is the maximum printable size? On an adult T-shirt, about 28 cm wide on the front and 30 cm on the back; beyond that, the artwork runs under the arms or onto the seams.
My logo is small or blurry, what can I do? We can rework your logo for €5: redrawn cleanly, sharp at any size ("Logo redrawn cleanly" option in the personalisation tool). This applies to logos, text and simple drawings, not photos, which can't be redrawn this way. For a photo, you can prepare it with our free tool.
